TEXTILE WORKSHOP with ANNA PRITCHARD
1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th and 16th of May 2008
Since graduating from Manchester University with a BA Hons in Textiles Bangor based Artist Anna Pritchard has been busy producing textile pieces and paintings that have been admired and exhibited widely throughout North Wales.
Her works are greatly influenced by the North Wales coastline, in particular the boat yards of Bangor, Caernarfon and Anglesey. She paints with mixed media and then uses the shapes and colours from the paintings to make woven pieces.
The pupils will take inspiration from paintings of Welsh Seascapes in the exhibition, by prominent artists such as Kyffin Williams, J.D Innes and J.Cyrlas Williams. They will produce mixed media paintings and textile collages that will then be translated into woven pieces of art work.

‘WELSH HISTORY DEPICTED THROUGH ART’
With Education Officer and Artist Eleri Jones
6th, 15th and 20th of May 2008
On exhibit in the gallery will be a selection of works from the collection of Winifred Coombe Tennant, organised by the National Library of Wales and curated by Art Historian Peter Lord.
Tennant was involved in a wide range of activities, a political activist that stood for parliament with David Lloyd George, she represented Britain as a delegate to the League of Nations, she had a strong interest in Welsh crafts, textiles and culture resulting in her wearing the traditional welsh costume daily and becoming a member of the Gorsedd at the National Eisteddfod in1928.
Tennant (1874-1956) collected works from a range of artists at the beginning of their careers such as Evan Walters, Kyffin Williams, Gwen John and John Elwyn. With subject matters including the Welsh Landscape, community and mining industry. Looking at her collection of art work is truly a visual interpretation of the history of Wales during the 20th Century.
Eleri will introduce the pupil to many of the work on display and produce a visual diary based on historical events. The diaries will be combined together to produce a timeline of welsh history.
